Teens Need Libraries

Snapshot of today's teens:

  • 66% of 8th graders are not proficient in math
  • 66% of 8th graders are not proficient in reading
  • 69% of 8th graders are not proficient in writing
  • 19% of high school students do not graduate on time

Teens need libraries now more than ever, yet what they need is changing.  Therefore, we need to change how we plan, deliver and evaluate library services for and with teens, including summer learning programs.  Please read this report: The Future of Library Services for and with Teens: A Call to Action and think about how you can begin implementing the recommendations called for in the report in order to help more teens succeed in school and be ready for college, careers and life.
