The Wallace Foundation has a great resource that encourages libraries and other organizations to start planning summer reading program early.
The resource is a report called "Getting to Work on Summer Learning: Recommended Practices for Success" by the RAND Corporation. According to The Wallace Foundation, the report culls lessons from a Wallace Foundation-funded project in six school districts to test whether district summer programs can boost student achievement, offers the best guidance currently available on how to start a district-wide summer program from scratch or improve an existing program.
